Description
Join visual artist Joanie Lemercier for a series of hands-on workshop sessions on using light and emergent technologies for making your voice heard. Get an inside view into Joanie’s “projection rebellion” climate activism and learn how to use LEDs, lights, and laser projectors for impromptu interventions. Together we will turn public space into a canvas for a cause.

"Capitalism is a scam", French light and installation artist Joanie Lemercier stated at the NODE20 panel "Taking Action: On Agency and Making Your Voice Heard" and pleaded for active resistance against environmentally harmful technologies and practices.

His visit to the Garzweiler opencast lignite mine became a moment of awakening, making him aware of the urgency of activist practices. As a result, Joanie rethought his artistic practice significantly: clients were rejected, flights were cancelled, and instead, contacts were made with activist organizations. From then on, Joanie put his range and artistic practice - including creative coding, 3D modulations, aerial photography and large-scale projections - at the service of the environment.

In recent years, he has joined protest actions of Extinction Rebellion and Ende Gelände in Germany, France, Belgium and England with large-scale projections.
In the Second Nature Lab Joanie Lemercier will share his knowledge with us. In his module "Tools for Activism", we will work together with the public space as a canvas and examine new technologies such as LEDs, light and laser projectors for their activism potential. How and when exactly this will take place, you will soon find out here.
